The Irish Government has set out a new strategy for the Irish Diaspora. This strategy covers the years 2020-25 and embraces all emigrant communities across the world, including Coventry's Irish community.
3 key points in the strategy that will affect our community are:
1- Ireland will hold a referendum on extending the franchise to allow citizens outside the country to participate in presidential elections.
2- Ceremonies will be introduced to welcome new citizens who gain citizenship through receiving foreign birth registrations.
3- There is a promise of continued support for vulnerable members of the community, including the elderly and the Survivors.
